Saul Bellow and the Decline of Humanism

This can be a learn revealing Saul Bellow's perspectives at the decline of humanism. With chapters on every one of Bellow's novels from "Dangling" to "More Die of Heartbreak", the writer argues that Bellow's imaginative and prescient of recent American tradition denies the opportunity of humanist enlightenment for his heroes. faced by means of the materially-driven, spiritually impoverished fact of yank lifestyles, they're more and more pressured into withdrawal and isolation from the fallen neighborhood round them.

Example text

We review here some recent experimental, numerical and theoretical results on the fine scale intermittency in high Reynolds number turbulence. In particular, we show that local scaling is consistent with experimental data. The scaling exponents take on a whole range of values, the most frequent ones being close to the value 1/3 predicted by Kolmogorov in 1941. Negative exponents are also obtained. 1. Introduction A central problem of fully developed turbulence is generally viewed to be the energycascading process.

Initial promises. The idea about the existence of the mechanism of the turbulence generation through the development of the coherent structures was advanced long ago [20], The notions about the "continuous transition" to turbulence carried out in a viscous (laminar) sublayer are also well known (see for example [21] ). A formal resemblance of the coherent structures of the turbulence, observed near the wall by means of visualization and called very often as horseshoe vortices, with A-vortices observed in transitional boundary layers were pointed out repeatedly, the same as the resemblance of the accompanying inflexional instantaneous velocity profiles [22].
